SmileOnMyMac was founded by Philip Goward and Greg Scown, who both love to write fun and useful software for Mac OS X and to improve it with customer feedback (thanks, folks). They are assisted by a team of localizers, marketing experts, graphic and web designers, professionals, and friends.
Philip and Greg were introduced at MacWorld in 2003 by their mutual (and very cool) friend Judy, and got started on DiscLabel shortly after. They released DiscLabel 1.0 under the SmileOnMyMac name at Macworld Creative Pro in July 2003 and captured a Best of Show award to their great delight. PDFpen was launched at Macworld SF 2004 and PhotoPrinto at Macworld SF 2005. BrowseBack was awarded Best of Show when it was featured at Macworld 2006. In May 2006, SmileOnMyMac acquired Textpander from developer Peter Maurer, renamed it TextExpander, and prepared the 1.3 release.
In 2006, SmileOnMyMac added a full-time marketing/PR person to the team. Jean MacDonald, a freelance web designer and online marketing consultant, now works exclusively for her favorite client, even though Philip and Greg won't change the company name to SmileOnMyMacDonald.
And where did that name come from? When they met, Greg, developer of PageSender, had a company named Smile Software; Philip had a company named OnMyMac.
Philip lives in San Francisco and likes opera. Greg lives in Berkeley and likes to read. Jean lives in Portland and likes digital video editing. Their friends and co-conspirators live all over the world.
